SIRIUS (photoshoot)

Thursday morning was game time for me, a month ago a friend of mind who I painted some shoes (Tokyo Breezies) for asked me to photograph her, she wanted a feminine look from her tom boyish look..lol..but with a twist she wanted me to photograph her nude. I must admit once her make up was done by KANZI and she stripped down I got nervous and her seemed to dissappear, once I got comfy the shoot just took on life and we had fun. I ended up shooting about 300 pictures that all came out so beautiful and emotional, I really enjoyed it an want to do it again..TOKYO OUT!

Trip to Spaghetti Project

I hung out at Spaghetti Project down in Richmond, VA with my homegirl, my little big sister Imani aka IKB and Uptown Kelly. We took a kick ass road trip to drop off artwork for the Disney's Birthday Celebration Artshow on Dec. 3rd 2010, I didnt know what to expect which made it that much more fun for me. When I walked into the gallery/toy store I near fainted from the energy and the colors.

I was some of my favorite artist work in the form of skate decks, vinyl toys, T-shirts, shoes and books. I think I circled the shop a hundred times and same something new everytime. I met Arlene Munoz part owner of the show and movement and she is so full of life with her energy and New York tongue..lol..she gave me the royal tour of the store and schooled me on some of the artist and hip hop culture that boomed out the speakers.

I got to buy a cool book, some toys and a T-shirt that sports the shop logo which I will be framing because its a 2x shirt and Im a 5x artist..LMAO

Art Spotlight: Miya Bailey

1.What mediums do you work in?
I work with anything I can get my hands on from ink and paints to clay and skin....i want to do it all... I don't want any limits.

2.What are you currently working on?
I'm currently working on a book titled "Before I'm Gone: The Art & Life of Miya Bailey" and a film titled "Color Outside the Lines" about the struggles & lives of professional black tattoo artists and their personal issues and their battle with untrained tattooers we call them "scratchers"

3.How is the art sence in your city?
The ATL art scene is a funny one... They are lots of great artists but very few buyers... A lot of bullshit hollywood talk wasting the time of hard working artist.... People act like they painting for fun.. This is what they do to feed their families...some artist hustle backwards and follow stereotypes in art just to make a sell...it's like they have to sell their soul to make a buck..

4.What artist are you liking right now?
My favorites are Shige from Yellow Blaze in Japan... And Mike Giant out in San Fran... also Tuki Carter, Flux, Mr.Soul, Goldi Gold, Bobby Fuse Green, Jeremy Fish and Mode

5.Whats the most fustrating thing for you as an artist?
When eveyone else is out living life.. Hanging out.. Having fun.. And I'm sitting in a chair in the same place 10-14 hours a day serving the people the art they desire.... I'm thankful but I miss out on a lot of life.. .

6.What is your goal for your art career?
My goal is to become a legend before i die... I want to live forever through my art like 2pac, Bob Marly, Andy Warhol, and Basquait do....I want people to study my art way after I leave this planet..

7. Last spot on you, who would you want to get tattooed by?

Damn hard one....it's between 3 artist, Tuki Carter, Shige, or Jesse Smith... I love those 3

8.Who would play you in an artist bio movie about you?
Lorenz Tate... He short and he can play a gangsta and soft role... Spike Lee, Oliver Stone or Larry Clark would have to be the director

9.Do you listen to music when creating , if so what?
Of course music is everything when tattooing to me... It set the mood perfectly.. I like Outkast, Goodie Mob, Devin the Dude, Jay-Z, Mile Davis, Fela, John Coltrane, Scarface, Nas, Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Little Brother, J Cole, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, 4 Hero, Prince & Revolution, TV on the Radio, Coldplay, Adele, Bilal, Passion Pit, Black Keys, Jimi Hendrix, etc

10.Dunny or Munny?
Munny allday

11.What was your first artshow and last that you had work in?
Hmmmm I think Art, Beats, Lyrics or the Popular art show at City of Ink

12.Whats your favorite subject matter for your art?
I would have to say photo realism... I'm dying to do a Ray Charles and Good Times theme tattoo...

Photos, Hobos and Too Small Shoes

These are some shoes that my homegirl mailed me to paint,
their a size 7 and the areas that I could actually paint on were small and I
hate paintinf in small areas, but its a learning experience. I decided to do something fairly simple
but fly, I did some blossoms and an african symbol, very feminine touch to it.
I love painting on shoes because they can be worn, I paint shoes to stand alone.

Kanzi x 13

I met my homegirl Kanzi a few years ago at the tattoo shop I worked at, she was there getting tattooed by a guest artist that was at the shop.

She seemed very stand offish and mugging, I think I might have tried to joke with her to break the tension and she just kinda blahed me off..lmao!

I thought to myself "fuck you then!" Days later when I saw her again it was a different her, she was laughing, smiling and we spoke. I told her this story and she laughed and explained to she was just going thru something, now we text, hangout and currently working on some art projects together.

Kanzi is very into art, she getting tattooed, does make up, modeling and some photography. She is the definition of "Around the way girl", the "Hood" packed into a 5 foot frame, flawless skin and presence that demands your attention. I really respect her and value her as a friend of mine.

Shine

This painting is about not letting people and other things steal your shine. I used an acrylic paint thinner instead of water this time and I found that It makes for much better blending without dulling the colors. The hands are something new for me and once I did the first one the other two came fairly easy. At first I was worried that the hair would get lost in the background, but once I darkened the background and used white hightlights the separation came.
